Have you looked at the ingredients on applesauce that you purchase at the grocery store?
If you answered yes to one or both of those questions, then this post is for you.
Home made applesauce is easy to make using only 3 ingredients:
Apples
Water
Sugar
You could actually make it without sugar if you want.
Depending on the type of apples I use, I may add just a little sweetness after it's pureed.
After peeling the apples, I use this handy dandy apple slicer. It removes the core while slicing the apples into uniform pieces.
Add the apples to a large stock pot.
Add just enough water so the apples won't stick or burn.
Add more water as needed.
Remember it's easier to add water, not take away water.
Stirring frequently, cook until the apples are softened and can be mashed easily.
I use my immersion blender to get the consistency that I want.
You could also mash them with a potato masher or fork.
Add as much or as little sugar that you want, tasting along the way.
Once cooled, the applesauce can be stored in the refrigerator for a couple weeks.
If you do up a bunch of apples, you can process them in canning jars using the hot water bath method.
