Blood Spots In Eggs

Perfectly Imperfect!

From blood spots in eggs...

to a rustic looking tomato from your garden...

Real Life...Real Food.

Read my post at Community Chickens to read what blood spots are and what may cause them.

Rest assured, they are safe to eat...just like those imperfect looking tomatoes.

Strawberry Muffins

How do you like your strawberries?
My favorite way to eat strawberries other than just plain, is strawberries with milk and sugar...and some crumbled short cake on top.

But, I got a little creative recently when my daughter had some friends over.  I wanted to have something kind of healthy for them to snack on.

Homemade Ranch Dressing

My girls love ranch dressing...
so much so that I joke I should buy stock in ranch dressing ;-)

I recently discovered homemade ranch dressing is not only easy to make, but tastes fabulous!

It is so versatile...
With a base of ingredients you can alter it to your taste buds or even what herbs you have on hand.

We Are Building A Deck (Part 2)

Handy Hubby worked on the deck some last week in the evenings and more this past weekend.

Let me just say it has been  H-O-T...we're talking temps in the 90's!

We've also had some rain out days and a busy life...

Here's a recap of what was accomplished since I last shared:

Our Vegetable Garden in July

Everything is growing here at LL Farm!

We are growing cucumbers on cattle fence, like we do tomatoes.
They are thriving and are much easier to find, compared to having them sprawled out on the ground.

Thought I'd give you a look in the garden...

Taco Baked Potatoes With Fresh Garden Veggies

I think it's important to have my girls help in the kitchen.
It's not only a life (and math) lesson that will be used over and over again, but it can also be a creative outlet.  A way for them to express themselves with what and how they create food.

What's growing in our garden sets the tone for our menus this time of year.

If it was up to my youngest daughter she would make something taco-ish every time she cooked ;-)
tacos...taco dip...taco salad...taco soup...

We Are Building A Deck (Part 1)

We are finally getting around to building our back deck.

Four years ago when we were building our home, the deck is something that we decided to not do at the time.  The money (and time) was used for other things in the home and on our homestead.

Over the years, it was two things that never seemed to line up for us to do this DIY project...

Time
and
Money

One or the other (and sometimes both) seemed to be an issue.  Well...we are diving into it!
We are building a deck.

Now I know what you're probably thinking...
the bird bath on top of the aerator system and the dog box look just fine right?  ;-) Ha!

The plan (which is in our heads) has been discussed and decided...

Summer Egg Production

chickens with old watering can
Summer Egg Production…kind of sounds like a play, doesn’t it?  Maybe I should say Summer Egg Production (or lack there of).  Or, how ’bout Summer Egg Production (yes, no, maybe).
Read my post at Community Chickens to see why extreme heat affects chickens egg production.

Lemon balm is my newest herb addiction!

Have you tried it?

Farmhouse Laundry Room Refresh

A functional pole for drying clothes is what sparked a little refresh in the laundry room.
The drying system that I was using was just taking up too much space.

Laundry...

it's not a chore that I enjoy doing, but it's a service that I do for my family so they don't have to go around naked...you're welcome family ;-)

Full disclosure:  The girls help with laundry around here too.

Anyhoo...as I said a functional pole is what was needed.  I know you know what I'm talking about...delicates yes, but also for those clothes when the dryer is in one of her moods, and decides to make your clothes too tight.  Yes, it is the dryers fault, not that delicious pie that I may have devoured ;-)

Our laundry room also needed a little prettying up.  I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so here's what we did...

Home Sweet Home

Going on vacation is nice, but...

coming home is the best!

First meal was of course eggs from our ladies.

Followed by a meal that included a fresh garden salad.

Peaches and cream...YUM!

Peaches and cream served in a mason jar...extra YUM!
For presentation of course...not that the actual mason jar adds any flavor ;-)
