I grow herbs in containers on my porch for easy access when cooking.
I also have them for prettiness. They are a great alternative to having only flowers on the porch.

Rosemary
This herb adds a wonderful flavor to chicken.
Planted in a small pot it also serves as an accessory for a small table.
It has a woodsy smell.

Basil
Fresh garden tomatoes, basil, salt, and pepper make a simple yet delicious salad.
It also has a wonderful smell.

Parsley
I use this in so many dishes - casseroles, soups, meats, and salads.
It makes a pretty garnish also.
The basil and parsley serve as my 'everyday centerpiece' for the table.
And of course, a back rest for Marina. (smile)
Peppermint
This is a new herb that I am trying this year.
Did you know that peppermint is a natural way to help relieve headaches?
It is delicious in lemonade, tea, and ice water
Peppermint is also suppose to repel mosquitoes and spiders...we shall see. (fingers crossed)

Hi, I've heard you can also grow citronella for the mosquitoes. As for herbs, I love them all and your displays are very pretty. It's a great way to have them handy for use and yet makes a pretty display and probably smells heavenly!
ReplyDeleteI have used citronella candles, but not the plant - thanks for the tip. I love cooking with herbs and yes, the smells are great too. Thanks for visiting and commenting ;-)
DeleteHi LL,
ReplyDeleteYour porch looks very inviting! Love the pops of red color in the containers by your front door. Lovely ideas for herb containers, especially the metal watering can....Hmmmm...I think I have one in the garage, I can pull out and use. My favorite herb has to be fresh basil, all kinds, and on everything! Thank you for sharing. Hope you have a great week! ~CB
Thanks CB! I love to use basil with tomatoes and marinara sauces - yum. Hope to see your metal watering can on your blog. I got mine at a yard sale ;-)
DeleteYour front porch is so inviting. What a great idea to keep herbs there for easy access from the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI have a citronella plant and rub it on my exposed arms and legs before gardening. It keeps the skeeters away. Peppermint is great for tummy aches as well.
You're invited to share this post on this week's Maple Hill Hop!
Thanks Daisy. We love to sit on the porch. I did not know that peppermint is good for tummy aches. Thanks for that tip and about citronella plants.
DeleteYour porch is so pretty. I love the snoozing Marina. Next time I will go get some from the garden and put it in tea. I did not know that and had not noticed it. I needed it last night. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteThanks Su. The porch is one of my favorite things about our home. I hope you like the peppermint in your tea.

I don't get enough sun for herbs on my front porch....so I have them in pots outside where theres full sun. I love herbs but I have to say Cilantro is my favorite, just can't get enough!
ReplyDeleteOur porch gets lots of sun in the morning and early afternoon. I do like Cilantro too.
DeleteLooks like my cat. I hope to be able to shop for herbs myself tomorrow. I love how you potted them. I'm following no so I can see more of your Little Farm. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteHope you find lots of good herbs tomorrow to buy ;-) So happy to have you following along!

Love your herbs and the chalkboard labels!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael!
DeleteHi Lori! My favorite "herb" is Marina; she is so adorable lying there. You have such an amazing talent with your photography skills. And your porch is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Marina is always around and ends up in quite a few pictures ;-)
DeleteLori, Your porch is beautiful! I love all of your herbs and the containers are so cute. I use herbs all of the time too. They just add something extra to my favorite dishes. I've had company off and on for about 2 weeks now so I can't wait to catch up on all of your posts. Love the new website header. It looks so good. Sending you hugs for a happy week, Coco
ReplyDeleteThanks CoCo for your sweet words! Just picked herbs give such a fresh taste to any meal ;-)
DeleteYour porch looks darling, Lori :)
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite herb is basil, but for growing I love my rosemary. It grows no matter what.
Rosemary is easy to grow, isn't it? And smells so woodsy.
DeleteI love your containers -- wish I had a lovely porch like yours! Right now, I'm loving fresh cilantro and since it doesn't grow well here, peppermint essential oil -- I use it for so many things. :)
ReplyDeleteWe spend a lot of time on our porch...we don't have a back deck/porch yet. I just purchased peppermint oil last week...using for headaches.
DeleteYour porch is lovely and I love the idea of the herbs as decoration too! They will be such a blessing in foods and as medicinal teas! :) My favorite herb is lavender though my favorite tea herb right now is lemon balm.
ReplyDeleteLemon balm is an herb I am going to try...thanks Jes!
DeleteAwesome idea to use your herbs as centerpieces on your porch. I love the smell of fresh herbs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Trish! The smell of herbs are relaxing, aren't they?
DeleteYou can make plants from your Rosemary. Take 3" pieces strip the lower leaves. Dip end in hoey and put in a small hole (Made with chop stick or similar so honey isn't rubbed off while planting) in a pot lightly press potting soil around and leave to germinate. Keep moist with water but don't drown it! In Australia we grow them as ornamental hedges.
