How To Dry Oranges In The Oven

Did you know that you can dry oranges in the oven?
No expensive dehydrator needed!

Just a couple hours in the oven and I had these beauties.
I love how the light shines through the orange slices.

Here are a few tips on how to dry oranges in the oven.
Trust me when I say these are good tips...
ahem...I may have learned the hard way ;-)

1.  Slice your oranges fairly thin and pat dry with a paper towel.
If the slices are too thick and/or too juicy they won't be dried even after 5 hours in the oven...I'm just saying...

2.  Place the orange slices directly on your oven rack.
Putting them on a parchment lined baking sheet does not allow the air to evenly circulate around the entire orange.

3.  Bake at 170 degrees F for two hours, turning over after one hour.
* If the oranges aren't dried through after two hours, keep baking them, just check them every 20 minutes or so.

There are so many fabulous ways to display dried oranges that will give you that burst of sunshine even on a cloudy day.

Using a milk glass dish, I tucked the dried orange slices in with some pine cones for a simple, everyday center piece.

    1. They don't have the scent like I thought they would, but the burst of color still makes the process worth it.
