Buckeye Bars

Chocolate and peanut butter.
Aahhh!
The delicious combination that is a favorite among many people, me included.

I love the traditional round buckeye, after all I'm from the Buckeye state of Ohio. ;-)
But, I don't like the labor intense process of making buckeyes.

You don't either?
Well, I have a solution for you.
You can enjoy the flavor without the l-o-n-g process of making them...

Ta Da!
I give you buckeye bars.

You make them in a 9x13 dish and cut them into squares.

If you're going to make them for an 'occasion', make sure you mark them so your family won't devour them!

When I recently made these for my daughter's tennis team, I covered them with foil and marked them with a warning wrote in capital letters, 'DO NOT EAT!!'

Here's the easy recipe...

Buckeye Bars

1 cup peanut butter
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
2 cups graham cracker crumbs (1 sleeve of graham crackers)
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
10 ounces milk chocolate chips
6 tablespoons cooking oil

Soften peanut butter and butter in the microwave.
Stir in graham cracker crumbs and powdered sugar.
Mix well.
Pat mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 dish.

Melt chocolate chips in the microwave.
Stir in cooking oil.
Pour over graham cracker crust.
Refrigerate for several hours.
Cut into squares.

Sit back and enjoy the applause that  you will receive!

Every Flock Needs A Super Star

Every flock needs a super star, right?
Well, Betty the chicken certainly thinks so.
It seems a lot of my chicken pictures include our Barred Rock named Betty.  Why is that you may wonder.  The answer is simple.  Betty likes to be in the spotlight!  When she sees that I have my phone or camera, she proudly puffs up and strikes a pose for me.

To read more about Betty the Super Star click here to read my post at Community Chickens.
There are more pictures there too ;-)

Tomato and Basil Salad

End of season tomatoes...

Yep, they're still producing.

I don't want to can or freeze any more tomatoes.

Now is the time that I can truly focus on the fresh, delicious taste of the mighty tomato.

Tomato and basil salad is simple and delicious.

Dice up some tomatoes.
Chop up some basil
Season with salt and pepper.
Let them get to know each other for a while in the fridge.
Enjoy!

Mother Earth News Fair in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania

The Mother Earth News Fair (MENF) is coming up!  Held in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania this upcoming weekend,  the Mother Earth News Fair is a fun-filled, hands-on sustainable lifestyle event.  The fair is offered throughout the year at different locations in the US.  This will be my first time attending!
As a contributor to Community Chickens, I will get to put a face to the names of many.  As a spectator, I am excited to observe.  With over 150 workshops to choose from, I plan on being educated and entertained.  Topics such as homesteading, gardening, natural health, chickens, and so much more interest me.
Vendors will be offering books, tools, accessories, and lots more.  I think I should pack a notebook and pen for note taking and an extra bag for the goodies I find.  Have you attended a MENF?  What was your favorite part?

Country Living Fair 2016

Yesterday I attended the Country Living Fair!

As you can tell from the sky, it was a beautiful day.

How cute is that chicken picture hanging on a blue building?
You know I had to take a picture and share it with you!

The Country Living Fair was located at the Ohio Village in Columbus, Ohio.  It was a quaint little setting.

Deck Progress (Part 3 of We Are Building A Deck)

Yep, we are still at it!

Handy Hubby works on the deck in his spare time (and when the humidity is not 950 degrees).

A lot has been done since my last update...
