Meet Ginger

All of our animals here at LL Farm are special, but there is one who is my side kick.

Her name is Ginger.

Ginger is the first animal that I got once we finished building our home two years ago.
A farmhouse nearby had a sign in their yard for 'free kittens'.  She was the last one available.

After the short ride home, I couldn't find Ginger at first.  She was hiding under the back seat of my SUV.  Once inside the house, she hid behind a drawer of an armoire for most of the first evening.  She slowly warmed up to us, her new family.

But, to this day, she is not a cuddly lap cat.  She wants to be near me, but not on me.

She runs and hides when the doorbell rings.  If she comes out at all, it is slowly and shyly.

Her name.
I decided to name her Ginger because she looks like a bunch of spices mixed together.
She is a tortoise shell cat.
She has beautiful markings of black, orange and white.
The line down her nose is almost perfectly straight!
We also call her Ginger Beer.  That name derives from the movie "Nanny McPhee Returns".  There is a part where the young boy gets so excited because they are going to have a special treat on their picnic...Ginger Beer.

When I am cooking, Ginger loves to sit on a bar stool at the island and watch.

When we are eating at the table, she is usually perched in the window near us.
She also likes to sit there and watch me through the window as I feed the chickens.
I've wondered lately if I fell on the ice/snow if she would call 911 for me.?.?

She lays on the office sofa while I am working at my desk.

She rests behind my head on the couch or chair.

Ginger likes to help me work on this blog.

One of her favorite spots to relax is this basket.  I try to keep it clear of clutter or decor.
She especially likes relaxing in the basket in front of the fireplace.

Another favorite spot for her is to lay in the sun that is streaming in through the window.

Oh how I love my Ginger Beer!

  5. Oh she looks so adorable. I would love a kitty, but I don't think my Bentley would deal with it well! He is totally spoiled!

  8. I enjoyed getting to know Ginger. It's looks like you both have a very nice relationship. She reminds me of our "little one" who also loves laying where the sun peaks through the windows. Her coloring is so pretty!

    1. Thanks Cathy! It's almost as if they are sun bathing when they lay in the sun, isn't it?

  9. What a gorgeous cat!! She is very similar in markings to our Mimi. The vet said that Mimi is calico because of the amount of white she has. In the UK she would be a tricolor. What ever we call them I think Ginger and Mimi are beautiful. Oh, Mimi has a similar personality to your description of Ginger. She wants to be where ever we are, but is not a lap cat. She will snuggle close at night now and then.

    1. Sylvia,
Your Mimi sounds beautiful. I spent my whole life without an inside cat until two years ago...man, was I missing out!

  10. What a beautiful cat - and her sweet personality is very apparent from the photos and your words. As I write, my cat is cuddled up beside me. Sometimes I think I should have called him Shadow because he is always by my side!

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed it Sarah. I had a shi-tzu dog named Sadie that died a few years ago (she was 13). She was the best dog I ever had...I miss her still.

  17. She is so beautiful! The asymmetrical coloration and the straight line down her nose make her so unique.

My cat's name is also based on a movie. His name is Nanook from a very old, historic film about an Eskimo, called "Nanook of the North". He's got his name because of his white fur with light caramel markings.

    Ginger is such a darling.
