There are so many interesting things to be found at an auction...
And, truth be told... I L.O.V.E. the bidding process!
Holding up that number to say your in the game...
Locking eyes with the other person bidding against you...
being the winning bid...
it gives me a feeling of such excitement!
Sometimes my husband and I go to auctions by ourselves (romantic, huh?)
Sometimes we take the girls.
I doubt they would say they love it, but...
they do enjoy it.
When our youngest was little, maybe 5 or 6 years old, she would get into it...
she would raise her hand and say "hip", just like she observed the auctioneers do when recognizing a bidder.
We went to an auction this past weekend and I scored this dresser for $25!
Right now I have dryer sheets in the drawers, to help 'freshen' the smell.
It needs a good cleaning and sanding. Then I will stain it.
I will need to measure for and add handles.
But...the details...just look at them.

the carvings on the drawers
the details on the scalloped backboard
the sides
I hope to get to work on this soon...stay tuned...

Wow! What a great piece. I never gave thought to using dryer sheets to remove bad odors…I always have used newspaper! Great idea. Can't wait to see this piece brought back to life!
ReplyDeleteThanks Patti! I should try newspaper sometime...

ReplyDeleteYou got a great deal Lori! I love all the detail in this beautiful piece. Last time my husband and I went to an auction, he was enjoying the wine they offered and he forgot to bid on the item we wanted! It was ok since we ended up winning the bid on a nicer piece of furniture. Enjoy your weekend. Pat xx

ReplyDeleteLove the little dresser for $25. bargain
ReplyDeleteI always put items like that in the HOT sun all day , just take the drawers out.
to draw out the musty smells, It has worked for me
then also I use a damp towel with vinegar to wipe it down inside
Thanks for the tip!
DeleteWhat a great bargain. I would love to refurbish something like that.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great find!! This should clean up nicely. Beautiful details!! I put clay kitty litter, not the clumping kind, in each drawer, fill up the bottom as much as you can. Close the drawers and leave for a few days. Dump the litter out in a bag because it can be re used any time. Vacuum and clean the drawers and the whole inside of the dresser. You're good to go......
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of clay kitty litter...thanks for the tip.
