BLT Pizza With Homemade Dough

This BLT pizza with homemade dough is rustically gorgeous and so very delicious!

It definitely deserves to have its picture taken (and a round of applause).

Because it is so good, I have to tell you how it all came together...

I have been blogging for two years and have 'met' some wonderful people.
Through blogging I have shared AND I have learned.

I did not know know how easy it was to make homemade pizza dough until
Teresa from Simply Farmhouse shared her simple recipe on her blog.  The fact that she used honey had me so intrigued.

It starts by combining:

1 cup of warm water
1 package active yeast
1 tablespoon honey

Let proof for 10 minutes.

While those ingredients got to know each other, I added some of our favorite herbs/spices to the flour.

3 cups of flour is really all you need to finish this simple dough, but I added:

dried parsley
garlic powder
salt and pepper

Combine the yeast mixture into the flour mixture.
Knead for 10 minutes.  Dough will become smooth.

Coat with extra virgin olive oil and place in a bowl.
Cover with a clean towel and put in a warm place to rise for one hour.

Beautiful, don't you think?

Roll out the dough and place onto two pizza pans.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.
Add your favorite toppings.
Bake for another 10 - 15  minutes.
That's it - easy peasy.

Now onto the BLT pizza toppings.

I have been on instagram for a couple months and I am addicted!
Again, I share but I have also learned.  There is so much inspiration on Instagram.

This BLT pizza idea came from my 'instagram friend' Lisa @vietsbrookfarm.

For the 'sauce' I used mayonnaise.
Just spread a layer onto the pizza crust (after it baked for 10 minutes and slightly cooled).

I used shredded monterrey jack cheese.

Then I added garden fresh tomatoes (red and yellow).

I crumbled cooked crispy bacon over the top.
(I cooked it while the dough was rising.)

I also added diced green peppers from the garden, a sliced onion, and salt & pepper.

It baked for 12 minutes in a 350 degrees F oven.
Then I added some shredded lettuce and spinach.

I will definitely be making this BLT pizza again!

For that pizza making night, I doubled the dough recipe and had more than enough for all four of us to make our own pizzas.

My family was a little skeptical of the BLT pizza concoction, so...

I used this cute little 'mater (and some of his friends) to make a sauce for their boring traditional pizzas...

The sauce is from the frozen vine to freezer tomato sauce that I made.
I added some seasoning to it and voila! everyone made their own pizzas.

Thank you Teresa and Lisa for your inspiration!
