Hanging Plates On The Wall (Without Metal Plate Hangers)

I must admit that I am fairly new to decorating my walls with plates.

Years ago, I thought how silly...plates are to be eaten off of.

Then when I started to like the look,  and decided jump on the band wagon, well...

I couldn't get past the look of the metal plate hanger - there were four metal things showing around my plate.  It may sound weird, but that truly distracted me from the beautiful plate that I wanted to display.

Not to mention the hanger spring to put on the plate may have snapped me :-(

Well, I am finally with the program (slowly, but surely).

I have a small wall next to my pantry door that needed just a little something.

I LOVE our pantry door and didn't want to take it out of the spotlight.

But that little wall looked so bare, having just a light switch...

I searched my stash in the basement and found this small white plate with intricate details.
(I think I used it as a candle holder before.)

I think it is just the little something that this wall needed.

Best of all...  No metal plate hanger!  No wire showing!

It looks like it is just floating on the wall.

I found these disc plate hangers at Hobby Lobby for a couple of dollars.
(This is NOT a sponsored post - I just want to share the awesomeness!)

It is very easy to use, just follow the directions that come with it!

The disc adheres to the back of  the plate and has an attached hook for hanging onto the wall.

No springs, not metal showing, just a plate...on the wall.

How 'bout you?
Do you like to use plates as artwork?

  1. That looks pretty cool. Just don't hang any plate you really, really love this way. I lost a couple of plates that I inherited from my sister. Granted, the glue was very old and it was a much smaller surface but I sure wish I had used the wire plate holders. Your wall looks nice. Love the pantry door. I haven't been following you long. Can't remember how I found you.

    1. Barbara, I'm sorry that the plates broke that you inherited from your sister. I actually tried another plate hanging here before - it lasted less than a day - I think it was because I didn't let it adhere to the plate long enough like the directions said. Needless to say, this plate isn't an expensive one or an heirloom. Thank you for your comment and following along!

  4. Thank you for sharing this information! I can think of all sorts of uses for these disc plate hangers!! In fact, I bet one would work for the sports plaque we could never hang on my son's wall, because the hanging hole for it was upside down! Hobby Lobby should be giving you a commission!
I absolutely love your pantry door, by the way!

  8. I have used Gorilla glue with metal hangers and they hold forever but it can be kinda messy. This looks much neater.

    1. With these you just add water with your finger. It gets sticky like glue. Thanks for visiting Susan.

  10. What a handy hanger! So much better than the metal ones. I always hated stretching the springs around the plate-very clumsy. Thanks for the tip!

    1. I think it is hard to stretch the springs - was afraid I was going to break the plate, then I didn't like the look... Thanks for visiting Nicki!

  11. I like any antique porcelain and china. This fine and intricate work deserves to be displayed. We used to have special hanging plates with paintings of different birds. The plates came with a hole for hanging in the back. If I had to see the rings I wouldn't have liked it either.

Thank you for sharing the great idea. Does your pantry door have a story? It's beautiful.

    1. Kimberly,
This is actually just a cheap plate...nothing fancy or expensive ;-) The pantry door's story is...when we were building our home, we found these doors (there are different designs available) and we knew we wanted one. It was a little more expensive then a regular door, but worth it! The walk in pantry is one of my favorite things in our home - never had one before.
