Deck Progress (Part 3 of We Are Building A Deck)

Yep, we are still at it!

Handy Hubby works on the deck in his spare time (and when the humidity is not 950 degrees).

A lot has been done since my last update...

This handy dandy tool is from Handy Hubby's residential work days (he now builds commercial).

It's called a board bender.

The lumber is treated, which expands when wet.  As the wood dries and ages, it shrinks.

Pulling the boards tight together as you screw them in place is important.
The cracks will develop as the wood shrinks.

This is why it's also important that we not stain or paint for at least 6 months - I do not want to go back and touch up between cracks!

The decking is all in place.

I really like the step down.
It brakes up the deck allowing for more 'rooms'.
That hubby...he's so smart ;-)

Most of the railing is completed.

This corner had to be angled into the 'bump out' of the house.

The side steps are complete.

Details.  Details. Details.
Rounded corners.
Sanding.

Lola approves!

Still to do:
lattice around bottom of deck
second set of steps
corner pergola
AND
decorate ;-)
