Farmhouse Laundry Room Refresh

A functional pole for drying clothes is what sparked a little refresh in the laundry room.
The drying system that I was using was just taking up too much space.

Laundry...

it's not a chore that I enjoy doing, but it's a service that I do for my family so they don't have to go around naked...you're welcome family ;-)

Full disclosure:  The girls help with laundry around here too.

Anyhoo...as I said a functional pole is what was needed.  I know you know what I'm talking about...delicates yes, but also for those clothes when the dryer is in one of her moods, and decides to make your clothes too tight.  Yes, it is the dryers fault, not that delicious pie that I may have devoured ;-)

Our laundry room also needed a little prettying up.  I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so here's what we did...

On top of the pole, Handy Hubby installed a shelf.  Thanks honey...I've got it from here ;-)

I got these baskets on clearance!  Three baskets in varying sizes for $13!

I love the dark color against the white.  They are perfect for storing things that I need, but don't need access to every day - batteries, light bulbs, extra candles.

That's all we purchased for the laundry room.  I shopped the house for everything else.

Vintage blue mason jars, a pretty box, and a sphere for above the cabinets.

In the corner is an antique iron that I've had for years.
Can you imagine using that?  No thank you!  You just sit there and look pretty.

The sink is a work horse!  It gets used for a lot more than just laundry - I clean garden vegetables and fruits here.  I clean eggs here.  Dirty hands and feet get washed here.  Our little dog gets bathed here.

The counter area was originally built with the intention of using it as a folding station.

But, in reality, it's usually filled with stuff...even when the basket is clearly marked 'stuff'.

You see, this isn't just a laundry room...

It's also what you see if you come in the back door to go to the half bath.  You know, where I have people go potty when we are entertaining outside...so you don't track dirt through the house.  Thank you very much ;-)

So that being said, this room must function as a laundry room, yet be somewhat appealing to the eye.
I'm hoping this little refresh has done just that.

    1. Thanks Vikki! The house plans had this area as part of the garage, but we knew we would need more space in the house...

  2. Looks great! What a blessing to have a sink in the laundry room. That's on my wish list for our next house. So handy!
I know just what you mean about that pie. Funny thing is, my clothes still seem to shrink when I line-dry them! ;0P
What a bright and airy space in which to work. Enjoy!
