A Winter Check List For Your Chickens

Old man winter will be knocking on our doors soon, so I thought this would be a good time to review some winter strategies for keeping chickens safe and healthy during cold weather.  A winter check list for your chickens…

Water, food, ventilation, dust bathing, outside roosting areas, straw, and deep litter method are part of this check list.

    1. Chickens can keep themselves warm. The heat of summer is actually harder on a chicken than the cold of winter. Daisy, are you going to keep chickens on your homestead? ;-)

  2. Oh my goodness I never knew about the wood ash for dust bathing. We have a fireplace that we use frequently so this will be perfect Lori! I always put the water inside too and your right about moisture. I have spilled it before and had to change the bedding. Great article!
